Jan Hanson and Shelly Creager have over 15 years of experience working in the area of food allergies and are the co-founders of Educating For Food Allergies, LLC (EFFA).  Their expertise covers a broad range of issues pertinent to food allergies, including an understanding of the physiology of allergic reactions and their implications, anaphylaxis, current research for new treatments, and professional guidelines and recommendations for food allergy management. 

EFFA is also a registered provider of Professional Development Points with the Mass. Department of Education and meets the requirements of the Mass. Board of Registration in Nursing to provide Contact Hours for continuing education for nurses.  They have assisted in the writing of school district policy on food allergy management and are the authors of “A Recipe for Managing Life-Threatening Food Allergies at School” published in Asthma Magazine. 

EFFA serves as frequent speakers at support group meetings sponsored by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, New England Chapter.  They were invited to speak at the 10th annual Food Safety Conference sponsored by the University of Rhode Island, and were presenters at the Mass. Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Conference in March, 2006.  EFFA has advocated in support of recently proposed legislation by testifying on behalf of House Bill #1757 and Senate Bill #513 which call for emergency personnel to carry and administer epinephrine, and food service personnel to be knowledgeable in food allergy issues, respectively. 

EFFA provides consulting services and professional development workshops on managing food allergies in the school setting.  They have worked with numerous schools and families throughout New England.  Their office is located in Norwell, Massachusetts.
